As you already know, reaching Omega status allows you to do everything much better, earning even more in-game currency from both mundane items and fundamentally new sources of income. Today, we'll discuss the processing of ore and ship modules, and perhaps even the ships themselves, into minerals, or, more commonly, the processing of raw materials (minis). Although this activity is available in Alpha, only at Omega do you unlock skills that, once mastered, allow you to break even on processing, or even make money.
Ore and Junk Processing:
Costs: Ore, modules, ships, and all unnecessary and cheap junk.
Benefit: Minerals, reduced transportation time. Omega days are unknown.
Processing is primarily done for two or three reasons. The first is the profit you get when you've leveled up all the processing skills, which allows you to turn compressed ore into even more valuable minerals, with a high skill level for processing raw materials or scrap metal. The second reason is a reluctance to transport large quantities of ore and modules from one location to another, as processing reduces the ore's volume by 5-10 times, roughly in the form of lighter minerals.
Why make 10 trips with ore on Miasmos when you can process the ore and transport it in two trips on Krios? This perk is only available to Omega and those with advanced processing skills. The third reason, also logistical, is that if you mine in your own sector, such as Verge Vendor, and don't want to deal with Uedama or Nearji creepers, you can simply process the ore into minerals and sell everything on site, without losing ISK or time, or even profit from these stats.
Another advantage is that the processing skill is universal, meaning once you've mastered raw material processing and increased efficiency by 5, it's relatively easy to master processing of any type of ore and scrap metal. But the skills only work when the omega status is active, as you might have already guessed.
CCP makes money when your ship gets blown up, or when you blow up your opponent's ship. Afterward, you'll be in the game every day to recoup your losses or pay CCP money. That's why wars, conflicts, and creepers on warpgates are necessary. You can beat the game if you don't lose your ISK.
Is processing ore into minerals more profitable than selling compressed ore?
There's no definitive answer, but it's likely yes. With a high station recycling rate of 56% (the highest I've seen on Tatara in the Perimeter system) and advanced skills that provide approximately +35% of station processing, you can reach a rate of around 70-75%, without implants. Again, at around 73%, processing begins to pay for itself, meaning anything above that is profit from the price difference compared to compressed ore and the minerals obtained from it. Everything written here and below needs to be tested on personal experience:
1 compressed regular plagioclase at 100% processing gives:
According to Dodixie prices, Sinq Laison region:
Tritanium - 107 - 700 ISK
Pyerite - 213 - 1280 ISK
Mexallon - 107 - 8988 ISK
Approximately 11,000 ISK - 5% from sale by order = 10,450 ISK
1 compressed plagioclase is bought at a price of 8,000 including tax 5% of the sale.
6% is 700 ISK
59% is 7000 excluding tax
Processing at 70% brings to zero, compared to the sale of compressed regular plagioclase, which is higher is earnings (-10% tax on processing in ISK).
Average daily turnover of minerals in Dodixie:
Tritanium - 100,000,000
Pyerite - 300,000,000
Mexallon - 40,000,000
Basic station processing rate in Botane 54% + (16.2% + 2.7% from skills) = 73% with an implant for +3% gives 75%. The maximum is +35% without implants to the station's processing (the percentage is not cumulative, but subtracted from the station's processing percentage.
Philosophy in conclusion
In theory, this is profitable, since it is not for nothing that they buy ore in such quantities and at such prices in the perimeter; it is possible that it will subsequently be possible to make money from it by processing minerals and selling them, or producing something from them, for example, ships. The information must be calculated independently and tested.
